Аннотация
Pragmatic competence, or the ability to use language appropriately in a variety of
contexts, is a critical skill for communication in a second language (L2). Thus, teaching
that focuses on developing students' abilities to communicate effectively in an L2 must
also include a focus on developing students' pragmatic competence. Cultural differences
lead to pragmatic differences among learners from different language backgrounds .
Even advanced learners tend to transfer pragmatics from their first language and culture
to their L2. Language instructors may question whether L2 pragmatics should be taught
in the classroom because pragmatic
knowledge may simply develop alongside grammatical knowledge without any
pedagogic intervention .
