ARE SUPERNOVAE TYPE IA STANDARD CANDLES OF THE UNIVERSE?

Abstract

The SNe Ia cosmology supports the accelerating expansion of the universe. The fact, that SNe Ia are "standard candles", is the strongest evidence of standard cosmology. Although many observational results are consistent with this model, some researchers try to show by their own researches that the model has serious problems. In their opinions SNe Ia could not be “standard candles”. There are some factors that dependence on an intrinsic luminosity of the SNe Ia: luminosity evolution, SNe Ia progenitor scenarios, mass and metallicity of the host galaxy and stellar population age.
