Abstract

Retrospective studies on economic development historyof Central Asia prove a hard and harsh transition path for structurally weak and vulnerable pre-reform economies. Challenges of enlarging poverty gap and unemployment explosion in early transition period made Central Asian economies to be more socially-oriented in order to adopt market economy principles smoothly despite high probability of long transition process. All economies in the region chose different paths and have had different outcomes of taken measures, which influenced on different areas in diverse scales with a strong effect in income stability and employment. This paper analyses the economic growth and income inequality paths of Central Asian countries and proposes relevant recommendations for further improvement.
